First part today, next part tomorrow:
My reason is that many of us are switching to what is now known as "cloud computing."
For small businesses like ours and many of our clients, the expense of maintaining the latest and greatest server and desktop operating systems is ridiculous, especially in a down economy. This doesn't include maintenance, repairs, backups.
We're switching to a great company where all we need is an internet connection, and over a Citrix login we'll access all of our applications over the web. Basically once we login our entire desktop will appear before us - whereever we happen to be in the world.
- No more backups, updates, troubleshooting.
- No more hiring expensive tech people to come in and tell us how stupid we are.
- No more buying expensive software upgrades. Upgrades are part of our subscription.
- No more coordinating databases between offices and users - we're all on the same database!
- No more worrying about someone quitting and stealing files - we can lock them out in a moment.
We've selected BlueRock Technology for our service, and they are huge in their customer service. It doesn't matter where in the world you are, they can service your applications.
The bottom line is that technology is advancing beyond the continual need to upgrade this and that. I can get a cheap laptop computer that basically has nothing but an internet connection because once I login I have everything I could possibly need?
That doesn't bode well for future Microsoft OS upgrades, right?
